It’s not a prepaid card it’s a debit card but fee free. I suppose I could have some extra in bank account to cover the hold.

Or I could use my fee free debit card to pay for the room and use a credit card to use for the hold. I’m just thinking out loud and hoping someone has experience with this.

Can I ask which credit card you use . Does the charge drop off quickly once checked out. Thanks.

Actually when I have had a look at virgin Atlantic card which I have the foreign transaction fee is 2.99%. So if the hotel is $1000 I will be paying an extra £29 transaction fees. It will be MasterCard rates. Does that sound correct? If so it isn’t as bad as I thought for fees. Thanks

Sorry I’m new to booking trips separately and hoping to use virgin points I’ve collected for flights rather than a packages or I would of just booked package with BA. Thanks for your help.
Yes you can .

I use my Starling card frequently to pay for hotels when I arrive and never had a problem,

There won’t be any fees for doing so and no extra charges.

As for holds that hotels put on your cards, sometimes they go back on my card as soon as I check out other times its a day or so , never too long though.

That’s great thanks. Do they put a hold on starling card , a few hundred dollars or so or did you use a different card for that?

I’m pleased I can use starling, I used it in Orlando with no problems a few weeks ago. Didn’t need any cash. Thanks

Normally book fully refundable with Expedia going through Quidco where you can usually get about 10% cash back

You can use starling for the hold or another card if you wish,

However Starling ( & Monzo ) are much quicker in releasing the holds than most banks .
