Subway Times Square to battery park?

Having a little panic about the subway.
Have tickets booked for statute of liberty tomorrow and staying at Times Square.
Thought we could catch the hoho bus but won’t get there by 9.
That leaves walking (too far) Uber (not in rush hour) subway or bus.
Is it really hard to navigate? I can manage the tube but the subway is something else.
I’ve looked online, some say the 1 train and others say the 2.

Simple and not harder than the tube in London. The 1 line (to South Ferry station) gets you closer than the 2.

If you take the 2, you need to get off at Wall St and it’s about a 10 minute walk to Battery Park (maybe a few more through the park to the ferry).

From the Times Sq area stations, look for the “downtown” platforms on the line you are using, to go south (“uptown” on the way back).

concur with the above the 1 train is def the one & is the end of the line at south ferry so you cant really go wrong.

fwiw one visit we walked back from battery park to hotel on hotel on East 57th

its a great way to see the real manhattan wandering through the various neighbourhoods.. stopping for the occasional coffee/drink etc

was less than 5 miles so an easy ish 1.5 hour walk

Loved the subway. Very simple to use, just flash your debit-credit card and off you go. We used it last week for the first time, I was really surprised how easy it was to nvigate!

We were really stressed about using the subway before our visit in 2017 as we’ve never used underground station even in the UK. However, we found it really simple to navigate and it made our trip so much easier as we planned our trips each day by taking the subway to the furthest away attraction of the day and working back to our hotel by a combination of walking and the subway.

Follow the advice given above and I’m sure you’ll find it straightforward, hope you have a great time xx

Exactly what we did up to 54th st. Found some really quirky shops and bought the best Halloween outfits ever.

Thank you so much everyone, getting the subway made our last day perfect. Went to sol and the one world observation deck.
And then got back on the 1 to penn station for the airport train. And like you said, very easy to navigate.

It's so easy! The 1 goes from Times Sq. to You can plan your route on the MTA website (or download their app). I did it for you and there's a link below but it shows 3 possible options. Click on the first option (the one with a red 1, not the yellow W or R routes) and it will show you the route in detail. Ignore the times - I put in 9am but it seems to know I'm in the UK so it keeps converting the time!

Make sure to arrive in plenty of time - about an hour before your ferry time.
