Gatwick hotel prices

Has anyone noticed if hotel prices get more or less expensive the nearer you get to the date?

I booked a room at the Bloc at Gatwick for our recent trip and the price was £75. I am now looking for a room for September and the price is double. I’m not sure if prices in general have just got more expensive, or if I should wait a bit before booking.

In my experience, they get more expensive. Early bird offers are to get cash in early.
There's always the chance they go down right before if they have last minute availability.

I think it can go either way, but more likely to become more expensive as it gets closer.

From experience they generally go up, we paid £66 for a flex booking at premier inn Gatwick for early aug. It is now £107. They could drop I suppose depending on demand, but I would book now with fre cancellation if possible and can always cancel and rebook if the price drops.

Think I may do this and keep my options open. I wonder if there’s an element of higher prices as travel increases with restrictions dropping in many countries.
