Alton Towers Hotel or Splash Landing
And why?
We are a family of 4...2 adults and 2 teens. Which would you choose for one night? |

Hi 👋
We’ve stayed in both (although it’s been a few years now) and liked them both, but for us the Alton Towers Hotel has the edge I think. Just felt a bit more special and the evening entertainment was in that hotel.

We love the Alton Towers hotel,we’ve not stayed in a standard room though, but the moon explorer one and Postman Pat ones over the years. We’ve walked through splash landings but never stayed there. Ate in the Alton Towers hotel a few times and then once we walked over to the Crooked Spoon (I think it’s called that) in the Enchanted village for our evening meal.

We stay in Cheadle at The Manor or Huntsman. So much cheaper than the on site hotels and ok for access if you book express parking too.

We stayed in a Moon Explorer room in the Alton Towers Hotel last summer. It was awful… ripped curtains (badly in several places); a dirty bathroom and dirty bunk beds with food down the side of the loose mattresses.
We received food and drink vouchers to use in the parks as compensation but I would never stay there again.

Depends on when you stay. We stayed at Splash Landings twice last year and Alton Towers hotel in February.
Splash Landings in July was red hot, the room was uncomfortable, just because of the heat, but in October it was really nice because it was much cooler. Both times we got a waterpark view, which was nice. There’s an arcade in Splash Landings that my daughter loves, and the on-site restaurant is a buffet, and the evening entertainment was ok. Alton Towers hotel was nice, the evening entertainment was good, but we still took a walk over to Splash Landings for the arcade. The restaurant is a normal order off the menu affair.

We stayed at the Travelodge in Ashbourne this weekend as visited the park for services weekend, paid £100 for 2 nights, room was clean, and comfy, with a 15 min drive to the park, and has a pub across the road called The Stepping Stone, and an Aldi open till 10pm for room snacks. DH and the kids went a few years ago and stayed at the AT hotel, he said he preferred the Travelodge. If we went again, would 100% stay in the same place.

The rooms in the Alton Towers Hotel are larger than those in Splash Landings. Splash Landings also tends to cater for families with younger kids so it can be quite noisy.
If you can stretch to the upgrade to either a Moon Voyage or Arctic Explorer Room it is generally worth it. They are newer than the standard rooms and also have air con and mini fridge. Edited at 06:30 PM. |

How big are your teens? We stayed in the explorer room with the bunks, was fine for our 6 year old, I'm 5ft 3 and struggled to lay flat when I tried it out. 6 year old thought having an xbox in the room was a huge plus though!

Thanks all. We've taken the plunge and booked the Alton Towers Hotel.
