can we still visit the boardwalk, park at the location and have a look around the resorts there? maybe grab a drink and an ice cream?

You can do all of that except park. You can usually park at the mini golf across the road and walk across. Or it’s an easy walk from Epcot or a pleasant boat from
Hollywood studios if you are spending the day at either of those parks. |

Boardwalk is one of the most chilling place on earth. I think they have stopped the free 18 ice Cream challenge now :-(

I've stayed at the Boardwalk loads of times and never heard of this. What is/was it?

One of our regular resort tours.
Park at DS and catch the WDW bus to Boardwalk or Y&BC then do a Friendship boat ride. Buses and boat used to go to the S&D as well but not sure that they do now. Mick

Thanks for that. The bus & boat always used to but I thought I'd read on here that the S&D had been dropped - must have imagined it.
Didn't do that tour in November but need to do it again in May (usual Randox caveat applies ) as we need to add the Skyliner to our WDW transport experience. Off the boat at HS and walk across to the station. Mick

We sat near the HS boat dock back in 2019 and watched the crowds walking across to the Skyliner - only just opened I recall and thought we'd leave it until next visit in April 2020 - what could possibly go wrong.
Our grandchildren are 18, 20 and 22 but I don't think we could cope with the parks now. It was so easy putting your park ticket in a machine and getting a bit of paper back with return between 3.30 and 4.30 on it. We like to have a day trip to the beach during our Spring visits usually AMI. Which beach beckons you? Mick
