Hemel Hempstead or St Albans?

So I finally booked our tickets for our first visit to Warner Bros Studios for my 50th birthday next month.

Just the three of us going. We are going to drive down from North Wales and stay two nights.

I am clueless on where to stay. Would be nice to be in a town with a few restaurants, walks, things to see etc

Would Hemel Hempstead or St Albans fit the bill?

Thanks

Agree St Albans is a lovely place with good shops, a really nice park, a beautiful abbey and lots of places to eat. Hemel is a bit more of a concrete jungle in comparison!

Definitely St Albans from me too. Hemel centre could be anywhere in the UK. St Albans has much more history and character. There are Roman ruins in Verulanium Park plus a good, small Roman museum and St Albans Abbey is definitely worth a visit.

Another vote for St Albans! I live in Hemel Hempstead - it’s great for access (near M1 and M25, trains to London in 30 mins), but that’s about it! St Albans is pretty, and has lots of little shops and restaurants, so much nicer for a holiday.
But if you wanted to stay near Hemel, then there are premier inns at Hemel and kings Langley, and a holiday inn express at Apsley. I wouldn’t recommend the travelodge.

Thanks for all your replies.

So I ended up booking two nights at Shendish Manor, Hemel Hempstead!

From there we can drive to St Albans and also Watford.

I just fancied somewhere quiet and relaxed and we can head into St Albans to eat and wander etc... (I presume!)...

This booking is fully cancellable so if I have made a bad decision do let me know
