Yep, it was with Amex. They picked up the fraud within a day or two and stopped the card, issued a new one within a week.

I had a similar problem last year after we came back from NY luckily it was picked up by my card company and they put a stop on the transactions then replaced my card but it does make you very wary.

I'm taking two cards with me and one will be used just at the hotels for exactly this reason, I don't want half my spends blocked.

When we went to Marriott is Key west the security deposit was $50 per night. We paid cash and got it straight back at the end of the holiday.
