If not you could drive part of the road and then have to drive inland down the motorway and back to coast
Oh yes I had heard of the torrential rain but wasnt aware of the damage it had caused.
I hadn't even though about driving inland you can tell I'll not be doing the driving as I can't drive! So this is good news that we'll still be able to drive down. Still not sure what way round to do things, wether to start in SF or end?!

We are returning for our second visit later this year - as others have said, you will have a fantastic time.

We enjoyed being able to have a "Disney Fix" at Disneyland, but as there are only the two parks and they are adjacent to each other, it only took 3 days out of our holiday. We also visited San Diego on that trip and thoroughly enjoyed it, as well as visiting some of the beaches around LA/Anaheim.

This year, we are (currently! ) flying into LA with 6 nights in Marina deal Rey, driving to Vegas for 5 nights (and fitting in a visit to the Grand Canyon) before flying up to San Francisco for 4 nights and a direct flight back to MAN on the new VA service.

Depends on where you finish. When we went we done SF first and ended at Marina Del Rey so we could relax at the end after 2/3 weeks on the road (albeit it was the volcano year and we had another week or so to relax lol)

We are also looking at a first time west coast trip next September and are currently planning to do a big loop starting and ending in SF, and taking in Sequoia NP, Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, Lone Pine, Palm Springs, San Diego, Santa Monica for LA (no Disney) Santa Barbara and Monterey.

After going to Florida for the past 25 years sometimes twice a year it was my home from home. Never ever thought I would say this but actually prefer the west coast after 2 recent trips there. San Fran, and San Diego were lovely and the Grand Canyon amazing. Just loved Vegas, although can understand why some wouldn't like it. We are just back in Feb. from a west coast trip of 5 amazing weeks, and have just booked 10 nights in Vegas for May.
Hotels in San Fran and San Diego are more expensive but it was so worth the expense. Was not fussed on LA but just not my type of place. You will have a great time. So different to Florida.

Our planned trip for the year ( our first to West Coast) is LA, up as much of PCH as we can. We are staying a few miles inland about halfway way up. Onto San Fransisco then Yosemite. Down to San Diego staying on route at Lone Pine and 29 Palms - to take in Death Valley, Mojave Preserve and Joshua Tree. We then fly back out of LA.

Really looking forward to it.

Sounds like there'll be lots looking at the west coast next year so we'll have lots of people to bounce ideas off etc 😁

We're currently planning on flying into and out of LA, 2 nights at universal, 3 at Disney, a week in Hawaii, and a few nights in San Diego, also a stop somewhere for a couple of nights at the beach, not sure which yet. Will sit down and try to work out which order to do things and number of nights nearer the time of booking anything.

Will be having a good read of all the west coast trip reports out there to get some ideas.

Happy planning everyone.

That sounds like an amazing trip! Think we'll start in SF & end in Vegas rather than go back to SF, & do all we can do inbetween! We really want to go to the Grand Canyon too so will need a few days in Vegas, hubby not keen on going but I do! We'll have 2 teens & a 9 year old with us & they can't wait for a really different holiday! Happy planning😀
