The only place to stay is on the Strip. Anywhere else will make you feel as if you're out of town and missing something. In any case, everything is on the Strip and that's where all the best sights are.
But when you look at the map, don't be deceived by everything appearing to be very close. The distances are huge. Bear in mind you will be heavily jet lagged after more than ten hours' flying and with an eight-hour time distance, so that will make everything seem much more of an effort. It can take you ten minutes just to walk past one of the hotels, Caesar's Palace. MGM Grand and Mandalay Bay seem close, too, but it's a good twenty minutes' trudge. They've built a monorail now that stops at all the big hotels, and that cuts some of the walking down. As for the airport - it's only a few minutes from the centre of town, although in rush hour traffic a taxi can take half an hour. |

We have booked our flights for next October, but like you have no idea where to stay. Initially I thought the Venetian, then I liked the look of the Wynn, I like the idea of the pool are at the Mandalay bay and then I think would we be best off with the MGM which quite a lot on here seem to really rate! Soooo many to choose from. I am going to wait until nearer the time and see who's got the best deal. Keep us posted with where you choose.

The only hotel with all balconies is the Imperial Palace, dead centre of the strip, cheap but does need an update.
The Signature suites at MGM have some suites with balconies, it's close to the airport but not cheap. For a reasonable priced room (no balcony) I would recommend the Excalibur, close to the airport and on the South end of the strip. If you want the better rooms then book a room in tower 2, they have been upgraded, you can also pay more for a strip view room.

Don't even get me started on this subject
I'm there for 3 nights in January and cannot decide between The Ballagio, The Palazzio or one of the new hotels in the city center complex. Every time I think I've decided I change my mind again As for the original post I agree the MGM Grand has a good location and does have some good deals, Vegas now has so many hotel rooms you can often pick up a late bargin (unless there is a major convention going on). -Steve

We've just come back and stayed at Planet Hollywood, it has very mixed reviews on here but we thought it was fantastic! Great staff, fantastic location and it has one of the best casinos! I would highly recommend!

If a balcony is your main criteria (along with classy, but 'cheap - haha!) then go to :
*won't allow me to post link, I'll pm you* and find a suite with a balcony at the MGM Signature, and barter your way to the best deal you can find! Seriously, balconies are incredibly rare in Vegas, and this is your best bet? See the 'sticky' at the top of the forum for other info?

We stayed at the Luxor which is at the end of the Strip and close to the airport. We booked directly through the hotel and it was cheap and we loved it.
Stayed at Circus Circus a few years ago and even though its an old hotel, it was clean and in a good location. I personally dont feel the need to spend a lot of money for a posh hotel when you only sleep in the room. Love Rio |

I like the look of the prices at the Trump hotel as well, but not sure if it's too far out. Fancy Signature MGM but not sure whether I would miss actually staying in one of the hotel/casinos. Way too many to chose from.
