Well I dont know when you were there, but it wasn't like that when I was there. As for location, it was fine, its not that far along the Strip and the mile walk is only a problem if you dont like to walk, it doesnt bother me and we enjoyed looking at places as we walked along, to me, the best way to see somewhere is to walk along.

It is only a mile, but didn't you find that area of the strip a bit "edgy" . I think that , yes it is only a mile but the slightly dodgy area would put me off and I'd rather pay a bit more to be in the thick of the action and also feel safer.

To answer the OP:-

My value choices would be Paris , MGM Grand or NYNY ( I liked staying in a hotel with a casino and loads of facilities so wouldn't stay in the signature)

When we were there, we didnt think it was a dodgy area, the only time we thought we were in a slightly dodgy area was when we went to Fremont Street to watch the light show and we walked back, we didn't really like it though I have to say that we didnt encounter any problems and that the light shows were worth going to see.
We walked back to Circus Circus at gone midnight and found it ok.
This was 2004 though so it could have changed since then.
Love Rio

I heard Xmas day is when Virgin start their sales but dont quote me on it. Air New Zealand look good, premium is a good price too and great reviews.

I completely agree, didn't like that end of the strip at all and circus circus is not a place I would visit again. Lots of nice hotels that are good value mid strip all 3 mentioned above seemed fine.

That MGM buffet deal was, for many, the best promotion on The Strip for many, many years. We only used it every other day, but made great savings for the four of us. It's still going, I think, and - if I were going back to Vegas- would be the first deal I'd hunt out, without any doubt.

And, as I keep saying, in terms of facilities, location, customer service and value for money, I think the MGM Grand represents the absolute best deal on The Strip (nay, in the whole of Las Vegas) at the moment. And you get all the resort facilities if you stay at The Signature, plus the facilities there, and balconies in about half of the rooms. As I said to the original poster, I seriously think it's the way to go, taking into account their personal criteria?

I'm no expert, but I've visited Las Vegas 14 times since 1989 - if you want some advice, feel free to pm me!

Went last December and couldn't decide which hotel so ended up staying in 3 !

Luxor - 7 Days
New York New York - 3 Days
Bellagio - 4 Days

My favourite - NYNY.
Would never go back to Luxor - too Dark and in need of major renovation.

reading review from others, MGM Grand seems to come out top. Saw Signature for July - Wed Thur & Fri nights for £250 including taxes. But think i will wait to at least eEaster before i book, as not many offers out for next summer yet.
