We love Hive , so easy and have never had any issues in the 3 years we’ve had it .
Will be getting it in our new house too as we use it for the heating obviously as well as the lights , plug sockets and Christmas lights

Why's that Pino? We only have one and use it for a lamp most of the year and then outdoor Christmas lights in December. Are there safety concerns?

the may systems have been mentioned. I just wanted to add one advantage is if you put the smart valves on the rads then the system will ensure each room is only heated if below temp and only then does the bolier kick in. So if you have rooms you only use on a night you can set each one to different temps at different times of the day which could save you some cash. (but if you have the money for the system not sure the saving would be a priority)

This is our house!
DH constantly moaning at me about putting the heating up to 24 to get the boiler going 😂😂😂

On the other hand we have a Hive which is fab and if we're away we can turn the heating up on the way home!

I believe they are not recommended for plugging in anything which could overheat if not switched off by the programmed timer or if you think it's switched off according to Hive but isn't really.

Lights are fine I think, that's no different to using light bulbs. I have coloured lightbulbs in every room. There was a fairly amusing problem when they first came out. For some reason they would default to bright red full power, not really a message I wished to send. That's no longer an issue though.

I don't fully trust Hive to switch the heating on if we are away from home, either by programme or manually, same for lights. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

So I wouldn't trust the Hive plugs to switch on and off unattended, but things such as lights don't worry me.

I wouldn't like to rely on door locks either tbh.

Could that not be more to do with your WiFi than the actual plugs ?
We have truly never had an issue with Hive sockets not working as it should for any of our lamps or Christmas lights , same with the heating.

Thanks for the info. We've had Hive for a while (possibly 4 or 5 years) and can honestly say we've never had an issue with the plug not turning off when we've asked it to. The heating and hot water have always come on as scheduled too.

I wasn't aware that Hive had started doing smart locks (are they a new product as I can't see them on the website). Its something I'd consider but I wouldn't be an early adopter, I'd wait for some positive reviews first.

Talking of Smart Plugs I see Amazon have a deal on theirs. £24.99 down to £9.99 if you use a code.

I have been using Hive for years now and not had any real issues with thermostat, plugs or lights. I haven't tried any of the other smart thermostats from other companies.

I have had Hive at my last house and the house I'm currently in. I use the Smart Thermostat for heating and Water, I have several hive lights and plugs.

I like the Hive app as it allows me to change schedules or manually override whenever I wish. There is even a heating boost where it will boost the heating by a couple of degrees for a short length of time that you can set.

I also have it connected with Amazon Alexa so I can tell Hive via Alexa to boost heating for 1 hour, Switch on the Hall light, etc. The plugs and lights can all be grouped or set individually. At Christmas I have tree lights, decorations and outside lights grouped and can just ask alexa to switch on Christmas

I haven't tried the hive motion sensors yet, you can use these to alert you if movement detected or to switch other hive devices on/off when movement detected.

I also find Hive customer service to be excellent. Having moved to my new home recently, I installed Hive but my account was still trying to access my old thermostat at the other house. My fault for not removing it from my account before moving. A quick call to customer services and they removed it for me and then spent the next ten minutes testing everything out with me to make sure I was happy.
