Companion flight calculator

If two people are travelling using miles and a companion for premium and upper class how many miles total would be required for both passengers

Outward per person is 22500 premium and return is 47500 upper

Would it be 70,000 plus 1/2 the upper class miles requirement at 23,750

So a total of 93,759 miles plus the taxes and fees

No the second person travels on the companion voucher. So it is the points for one person.

I don’t understand why you would think you need to add on half the points for one leg of the journey, that seems a bit random.

It’ll be the new rules that came into play a month or so ago that allows red members to use their vouchers on premium/upper flights. I haven’t looked into it but It was something like 50% instead of free.

I make this calculation correct.

Your companion gets the premium outward leg for 0 miles and the incoming upper at 50% of the mileage (assuming you are a red tier member).

Thank you. I hadn’t heard of that, why would it only be on one leg though?

Edit: cross posted with loolah who has answered.

The 50% rule only applies to Upper Class companion redemptions. If the OP was travelling UC both legs he would be paying 95,000 for his UC return and then an additional 47,500 for his companion.

If he travelled PE both ways, it would just be 45,000 miles for him and 0 for his companion.

It's just the mixed cabins each way that makes it seem a bit odd.
