Gatwick to charge for terminal drop offs from 2021

Advance notice of changes at Gatwick for drop offs at the terminals has been announced. Drivers will be charged for dropping off passengers at Gatwick, as the airport tries to recover from the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Motorists will have to pay a £5 charge to leave people directly outside the terminals and the money will be used to preserve jobs at the airport.

Currently, cars are permitted to drop off passengers directly in front of both terminals but this will change with the charge introduced next year but no definite date has been given.

This will affect those Dibbers who drive to the airport, drop off their families at the hotels such as Premier Inn/Sofitel or the terminals. If you want to avoid the charges you will be able to drop-off or pick-up passengers in the airport’s long-stay car parks, with two hours free parking and a free shuttle bus to the terminals.

So thats another expense to plan for when thinking of a trip from Gatwick no matter whether you are going to Florida or anywhere else that Gatwick serves when it re-opens fully.

Thank you, we are planning to be dropped off at the terminal (if all goes ahead) and its good to know this before we turn up.

I wont mind personally paying the £5, its easier with luggage and family then trying to get on a bus for us.

I think £5 is very steep. there have been charges at Belfast airports for years now to drop people off at the door but i think its only £1

£5 on a several thousand pound holiday isn’t going to hurt anyone. Just be thankful we’ll be able to fly

Inevitable as Stansted has been doing it for a while .
Won’t make a massive impact to us as we usually valet park. For most people the easy solution will be to get dropped off at the Sofitel instead.

Am more shocked they have not gone down this route before. Bristol airport drop off zone is £4 for the first 10 min then £6 if you take up to 20 min.

Total rip off and it means people are now dropping off outside the airport on a busy roundabout. If you try to drop off anywhere on airport property other then the drop off zone you risk a £100 fine.

I would simply be dropped at the garage next to the old Premier Inn North and walk round and down the mere hundred yards down to the terminal entrance. That is private. £5 saved.

I suspect this will be policed, particularly if many many peeps do it.

The long stay method as I suggested earlier may be the fall back and gives time for hugs and goodbyes.

Not surprising, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Prestwick have charged for a while.
