Trip to Vancouver Island May/June 24 Day 27
Day 27
Fort Langley and Stevenson When I was planning, we wanted to spend some time seeing different things, when we came back over on the ferry, so we had planned a day visiting sights outside Vancouver First, was Fort Langley about an hour’s drive from the hotel. Nice drive along the Fraser River, lovely bridges! Fort Langley is a historic fort where British Columbia became a British Colony, stopping it becoming part of America. It was very interesting, lots of it set out as it would have been and with people in costume working there. After a good wander around we went into Fort Langley town, what a lovey pretty place! We went into Blacksmith Bakery and had a gorgeous cake and coffee. We found a lovely little sweet shop so got some lovely treats for the grandkids and had a wander in the antiques shops. There is also an old station there and a park along the river. Lovely place and I would happily stay here. Next, we headed over to Stevenson, had a wander around the marina, lots of boats selling fresh fish. We wandered up to the Gulf of Georgia Cannery, another historic site, got tickets $26 for both and spent an interesting time seeing the history of salmon canning. After this and wandering around a bit ore we headed to the airport to return the hire car. Easy to find and straightforward, we then made our way over to the Fairmont again for our last night. I really liked Fort Langley, the people were so nice as well, definitely worth a drive out.
Have you seen the terrible fires in Jasper, so sad. |
