It can't be both.
Of course it can be both. None of us on here know the circumstances - unless of course a dibber was one of those involved.

And ‘I can’t imagine the need’ doesn’t mean that there wasn’t a need for it. Just that I can’t imagine what it would be.

Police who hit cow 'probably right', says farmer

"While the whole thing looks horrendous, and it is for everyone, they probably did the right thing at the time."

The farmer said other options open to the force may have been shooting it or using a tranquiliser dart, though the latter would need proper training.

Mr Broom said: "The other option is you shoot the animal.

"In that environment would you want to be using a rifle in a built up area on a dark Friday night?"

I find it all a bit bizarre, I guess having spent most of my younger years living on or around farms ( my father was a stockman and from about the age of 11, I guess, I used to get the cows in for milking for him) with the exception of rather large Bulls it would have never entered my head to class a cow as a dangerous animal and just seems a very disproportionate response to the issue to me !

NFU say it was a reasonable thing to do.
In the UK, 5 people a year are killed by cows.

Cows are extremely dangerous in herds, especially to hikers and even more so, dog walkers.

I know this is not a laughing matter, but my teenage boy brain won't let me get that scene from "Me, Myself and Irene" out of my head.

On Sky News. The Officer has been cleared of any wrong doing. No further action to be taken.
The Farmer says the animal suffered no long lasting harm and is with its herd.

Thank God common sense has ruled. Pity the Officer had to have this hanging over his head for this long.
