AVIS card hold

Just got back from a week in Orlando.

Booked our car with Avis as usual using Avios points, so all prepaid for before we go.

DH checked his Credit card and Avis had withheld £600 for the car! This amount wars on his card right until the day we returned the car. Luckily for us this didn’t impact on our spending for the week but it’s worth noting if you only have a card with a small credit balance.

DH was furious as we use Avis Preferred and have been hiring with them several times a year for years and it’s never happened before.

The fact he chose a Pick up truck is another matter

Very strange. We've only ever had I think its $100 or £100 taken as a hold that's dropped off after a few days. We haven't booked with Avios though only as a BA fly drive, 4 or 5 times now. I wonder if this is a new booking condition?
Would love a pick up truck though
