Has anyone done roast potatoes this way

Make them in advance, then freeze them. On Christmas Day blast them in the oven on high for 10 minutes. A bit like making your own Aunt Bessie's really I'm not sure whether to try it out beforehand as I would like them cold in the middle on Christmas Day.

not tried it, but i find reheated roast potatoes usually have a slightly odd texture. the outer tends to be a bit chewy

maybe dont cook them fully, then freeze them, then just finish them off for the last half an hour?

I think it's a bit risky to mess with a Christmas staple like this - I'd be devastated if the roasties went wrong!

I've thought about it but I think it's too risky and they won't crisp up as well as freshly made ones

Me too. I just wouldn't risk it. Good roasties ARE the Christmas dinner!

My mum makes meals for my grandad and then freezes them for him. She often makes roasts with his roast dinners then re heats them in the microwave after. Something we have always done if our meal has gone cold too, they taste just as good.

DH does it, did a few practices first! When reheating he covers them in foil, then remove foil for last 5 minutes. This helps them stay crispy, but not too crispy or chewy.

I very rarely cook roasties but if I do I tend to do too many.

I let the extras cool down fully and chuck them in the fridge. Next day I put them in the oven for about 10 mins with other stuff I am cooking. They are fine, maybe a bit dry but will be fine if gravy is on them.

It was DH that suggested it so I could blame him, but I don't think I'll risk it.
