Have a friend on the Paediatric ward, (actually the Ward Manager) who has a stoma. She used to make herself available to talk to people about the plus sides of a stoma. We had a young lad of 19 who was rail thin and ill who was refusing surgery. She had a long talk with him and he had the surgery. We didn't recognise him 3 months later when he came back to visit us. He was a hulking 6 footer back at his hobby of boxing!

Only just seen this post. I hope things are ok. I'm sure you have seen lots of people posting pictures of their stomas on the Internet over the last few years. I think it is actually helpful for someone in this situation to see some of these positive posts. My friend had a urostomy about 30 years ago and a colostomy a couple of years after. She sailed through the colostomy operation and it really did change her life for the better.

Aww thanks you chaps. Well what a total emotional rollercoaster. Sunday they were talking about discharging her as one surgeon thought the risk of covid was too high and she did two tiny trumps. He wanted to get her back in 2-3 weeks and operate then😬 Not a good idea knowing how ill she is and the peak predicted then. A quick message panicked to her consultant and another surgeon saw her. She also had an abscess at the site of the stricture. She went down for surgery at 8.30 took me until 4pm to find out what they had done. Longest day of my life. Shes had a resection no stoma. Managed to talk to her this morning shes very tired and in quite a lot of pain. Her pain pump is down but shes had some liquid morphine. They are pushing to get her home tomorrow or thursday. Thanks for thinking of us, she a little trooper.x
