DDP - is the disney dining for Onsite guests only?

Hi,

As far as I'm aware you can only have DDP if you stay onsite.

A girl I work with thinks she can stay offsite in an International Drive hotel and still buy Disney dining?

Is this possible or is she confused with other parks dining options?

You're right. Dining plans are for onsite guests. They've recently started a dining plan that guests staying at selected Disney "good neighbour" hotels can buy. There was also a trial of a one day dining plan for MK but I don't know any details of that.

You have to be staying on site to take advantage of the Disney Dining Plan.

Quote from WDW site:

Disney Dining Plans, offered to United Kingdom holiday makers, are convenient money-saving options available exclusively to Guests of Disney Resort hotels and must be booked in advance along with your Disney Park Ticket.

No, you can only buy the dining plan if staying on-site and even then it has to be for a minimum stay of 5 nights with tickets bought at the same time. You can't stay on idrive and get it at all.

There's a trial of a dining card, but it's only at select locations, but not idrive hotels:

There was a daily dining plan available in Magic Kingdom for offsite guests recently. I don't know if it's still available but maybe that's what your friend meant.

It was called Dine On The Go and $29 per adult or $12 per child got you two quick service meals and drinks each for each day of purchase. It was running from Jan to Feb this year but not available any more.
