Cedar Key - anyone been?
Hello,
We are looking at spending a few nights at a place called Cedar Key on the Gulf Coast, I was wondering if anyone had stayed here or nearby and what you thought about it? Thanks in advance |

Yes, we love it there, not sure I could spend more than one night there though. It is about 10 miles over a cause way and an Cay on its own. There is a little beach, quite sandy. It is quite an arty place.
There are a few Gift Shops and several eateries. The one we like is the Pickled Pelican! At the back is a little board walk out to a Bayou where shrimp boats go from. The nearest town is Ocala or Gainesville which are quite a distance, not within going out for the night places. It is quite a trek to get to about 1hr beyond Crystal River and Homosassa. I'm intrigued, well nosey really How did you hear about it? Every time I mention it people look at me blankly. Yes, it's quaint but really not more than a days worth of looking around. |

Hi,
We were looking for somewhere a little different for 2 or 3 nights before heading off to Anna Maria Island. Cedar Key was mentioned in the Times travel supplement last weekend and my husband liked the idea, a bit of searching on VRBO and I have found some nice little rentals that will do 2 night stays. Thanks for posting, really helpful, and good to hear how much you like the place |

Oh, I hope it doesn't become another Anna Maria Island! Do go whilst it's quiet.
There is also a very good childrens playground on the beach. Stock up with food before you go as there is only a little Spar type shop for groceries. Have a really great stay. |

Ooops, just seen you are going on to Anna Maria Island. It is beautiful and we always go there but everybody knows about it now, whereas very few people have heard of Cedar Key and are not prepared to drive from Orlando so it remains undiscovered!
