Anyone did Toronto to Florida
So the last twice we have did Nyc and Washington before flying down to Florida. Next year I've booked flights to nyc and home from Florida but thinking would it be doable to do a few nights in nyc - fly up to Toronto for a couple of nights and then fly down to Florida from there ? Any pitfalls ? I'm thinking in my head it's too much but would love to experience it... also love that we don't have to do immigration at Florida as normally flying from nyc but that would change I presume as we would be flying from Canada ? Or does anyone know if there's pre clearance at Toronto ?

If you want to visit Niagara I would say definitely visit the Canadian side, there’s a lot more to it than the US side. The Canadian side is more commercialised but you can take a boat, walk round the back of the Falls, I went on a cable car over the river and there are several places to eat.
I took a day coach trip from my hotel in Toronto to Niagara, stopping at Niagara-on-the -Lake on the way, a nice small town. I also did one of those hop on hop off bus trips round Toronto itself and saw quite a lot of the city. In the evening I walked round the underground shopping mall. You can spend more time in Toronto but two days is enough to fit in the highlights. |

There's plenty to do in Toronto but it seems a lot of hassle and expense for two nights. We did a two night trip there several years ago during a tour round Ontario and saw a bit. We went for six nights in June, we could easily have added another three or four days, there's lots to see. If you fly to Buffalo its about a 20 mile drive to Niagara, you can probably get a bus. The boat trip under the falls to is probably one of the best holiday experiences of my life. If your crossing into Canada from the US I don't know if you will need a Canadian ETA. You could visit the falls on the US side they do the same sort of boat trip from there.

If you are going to do a couple of nights consider one of the city tour buses, the drop off/get on you get worldwide. Loads to enjoy, you will probably want to go back.

We have done it a couple of times, I saw last week Air Canada were offering free stopovers in Canada on the way to the USA booked with them.
I would definately do it as the Pre clearance in Toronto is the best, You will need a Canadian Eta though but If I remember rightly its about £7. Niagara Falls are amazing, especially the Canadian side and if you get chance to stay overnight The Marriott, The Embassy suites and the Sheraton have awesome Falls view rooms. The Embassy suites has the Keg restaurant with amazing views over the falls at Night, We have stayed there a couple of times and I loved eating my breakfast watching the Falls. |

Oooh Thanks so much ... so - is that definite? - pre clearance at Toronto airport so that you don't need immigration at Florida (sorry for my ignorance ) - ie walk through collect bags? We usually fly from ny down so it's just an internal. How does that work in Canada then ?

I flew from Toronto to NYC last year and the immigration stuff is really easy and I'd assume it would be the same if going to Orlando. You go through immigration/passport control in Toronto then when I got to NYC I literally walked off the plane, collected by bags and left.
It felt very weird seeing all the people waiting to get on the plane that I got off and not having to go through immigration after the flight!
