DH and I managed to upgrade for £80 each one way from Vegas last time. This was a few months before the flight.
I've booked PE flights there and back (into Vegas and out of LA) for September for £780 each!
Maybe the Vegas route is easier to get a good deal on.

We booked premium for our inbound flight at time of booking flights as they were only £10 more each and we also booked extra legroom for outbound. We much preferred the extra leg room seats, they were brilliant. That being said the extra luggage allowance with premium on the way back was very helpful
