I’m pretty sure that BA go in and manually allocate seats to families will small children between 3 and 7 days before the flight.

We normally fly with BA.. and have almost the same amount of kids 19,17,14,13,10,9 and a 4 month old... never booked seats and always sat together on a BA flight.. the only time we ever got split up was a Monarch flight when older kids were younger.sitting my 4yr old on her own! A passenger kindly moved for us though... .. this year we managed to allocate our seats already as we payed for the sky cot for the baby and it allows you to book your seats for free. cot cost 10% of the total booking... might be worth while booking the cot for 2 yr old.. don't have to use it but may work out cheaper than pre booking seats?

We’re flying BA (A/Airlines plane) 8th Aug & our seats were allocated last week - 3, 2 across the aisle. Worth checking on manage my booking as they might have been allocated already.

BA offer free seat selection for anyone travelling with an lap seated infant under 2. Bassinet seats are only available for adults with an infant linked to their ticket. We were automatically assigned bassinet seats for our next trip but it’s not guaranteed.

We flew with BA Gla to Mco via Lgw 2 weeks ago and we were allocated seats together for both legs 7 days before as my kids are 6 and 10. You can swap them free of charge when you check in 24hrs before if there are any seats left. We flew back with AA and could book seats free of charge as soon as we booked.

Edited at 09:54 PM.

We flew BA last July in a party of 8 (youngest 12) and were split up - 3,2,2 and 1. Fortunately (for us), due to traffic on the M25, there were some no shows and our "1" managed to move next to a 2.

Worked out well for you

Do you think you was split up because you are a big party and the youngest was 12?

Our oldest child is 12 so fingers crossed we are put together or there are some seats we could move to when check in opens

No idea Im afraid but, with IFE, we dont tend to interact as much as we might otherwise anyway. An excuse to get up and stretch your legs as well.

Obviously, more of an issue for those travelling with younger children.
