Its worth doing, but its also long winded. I used CEDR who were TUIs mediation service. TUI downgraded the plane and was delayed. They denied the delay and offered some measly amount for the downgrade. After 6 months of them basically being taken to court I got just over £5000 ( there were 6 of us) they did not provide a defence but won't accept either, just go through the proper channels and you will win.
