Dell XPS 13 9370 Laptop
I have been looking at the Dell XPS 13 9370 Laptop, Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, 13.3" UltraSharp 4K, Gold/White and wondered if anyone had any thoughts on it compared to other laptops?

looks like a nice spec. the xps is one of dells higher end units. i'm not sure what price is, but i'm guessing youre into macbook pro territory
what are you wanting to use it for? seems a bit of a waste if all you are doing is checking facebook and editing word docs, but if you want something for video editing that is well built and futureproof spec-wise, i'm guessing you should get *at least* 5 years of decent service from it if treated well my top end dell was used daily for 7 years before i retired it (and replaced with a mac) - its still useable today, albeit with linux on, as windows xp isnt secure anymore, and its not nearly powerful enough for win7 or newer |

What do you suggest storage capacity wise? I'm used to 1TB but can't decide if 512GB would be sufficient.

Looks like a nice spec machine. I have a 7 year old XPS i7 W10 with 2 * 512GB SSDs (retro fit about 2 years ago), still flies along, have no intention (or need) of changing any time soon.
For me, personally, I'd find the 13" display too small when using, but as I said that's personal. Otherwise never had a hardware issue over the years, good solid reliable machines

Was that 1tb an SSD or a normal Hard Disk Drive?
512gb SSD, whilst half the size of a 1tb HDD, will be considerably snappier at many tasks. I use a 512gb ssd with a smaller one for overflow, I get away with it fine and I have some large files. (One of them being 80gb!) On the other hand if you really think you need the space you could try and upgrade to a 1tb SSD. But I wouldn't go for a standard hard drive these days, laptop ones are painfully slow at many things compared to an SSD.

unless you have a large music/video/media collection, 512gb ssd should be enough for the average user. windows and apps will probably take around 100gb, leaving you with 400gb to play with.
anything else, get an external usb drive and store things on there. hth |

I have clients who show me the " new laptop " and while they are always well spec'ed and work very well
they just use them to send E.mails and check facebook, which is the same as a £200 laptop / chromebook would do just fine |
