Yup, however its business as normal until they file for administration. (the warning signs were there all day though)

It would be immoral for them to still take bookings after filing.

I also at this stage don't have travel insurance, I only usually purchase it for trips outside of the EU/Australia (I'm a citizen there) unless its a cruise, and my annual policy has expired as I haven't been on such a trip since Sept-17 when I we3nt to New York.

I'm wondering if it might be worth looking into a single trip policy that covers airline cancellations.
you need to check the policy fine print, some policy exclude claims for the following 30 days for spme type of events like end supplier failure to ensure people dont take out the policy when they know something is very likely.

since there are no CC fees now, im really surprised people dont use their CC for purchasing things. For the protection (on qualifying purchases) alone it is worth it. It wont protect you from the pain of rebooking more expensive flights (or cancelling the holiday if you think it isnt worth it).

I think your comment “on qualifying purchases” is very important especially when booking flights etc through an agent (eg the flight only companies that find you flights from lots of airlines).

If the contract is between you and the agent and your payment doesn’t go direct to the airline, you might not be covered by the CC protection.

I can’t remember the exact wording but I’ll look it up and post later, perhaps on a new thread. I think there’s a few cases dealt with by the financial ombudsman that will illustrate the point.

Sorry to hijack this thread !

I have recently moved back to the UK after living overseas for a long time. I therefore have next to no credit history. I have no mortgage etc, and no loans, etc etc, I own my house, car, phone etc outright. When I applied for a credit card I got declined, and as such I didn't pursue it as I didn't want anything affecting my credit history as I built it back up.

I completely get what you are all saying about travel insurance, and I do purchase it when I go on a cruise or to the US, but I do tend not to for trips to Australia/within the EU.

I completely understand that's a risk, but similarly its a risk I'm happy to take with my EHIC card/Medicare card for Oz. Just like we don't insure our dog/horses, I prefer to insure as little as possible as I know I always have savings if required. I believe this is a stance that can work well for you, as otherwise insurance companies would never make any money.

This is a minor bummer, just because its only a fortnight after our wedding, and with us buying and renovating our house in the summer, 3 nights in Paris is all we could afford at this stage.

However it is a £250 flybe flight we're talking about, the hotel has free cancellation.

I'm hoping that it all will be ok. My biggest debate is that there are flights with Easyjet available at the moment for £178. The flight times aren't as convenient for OH's work (hence going Flybe), but they are still affordable now.

I've been looking at travel insurance, and will look into it further whilst eating my lunch. I just can't decide what is best to do really, do nothing and wait and see, book Easyjet flights and claim back tax on whatever we don't use, or try to find travel insurance that would cover this, this might not be cheap this close out, and will have excesses applied too so all just needs weighing up.
