It's such a shock! We live in Swindon and so many of our friends work at Honda. There's an official statement being released tomorrow and the workers haven't been told anything yet! I'm guessing brexit won't be blamed but it's surely got to have been in the equation somewhere.

I'm sure Brexit will affect businesses adversely (certainly the uncertainty surrounding it all at the moment) - but as part of its consolidation plans Honda are also pulling out of Turkey - why would Brexit have any influence over that?

Because apparently the Swindon factory supplied the parts to the Turkey plant so there’s no point in having the Turkish operation if they’re closing in the UK (I read it earlier, not fact checked to see if it’s accurate but would make sense)

Devastating news for the workers of Honda and also the supply chain.
Honda/Japan have their own EU-Japan trade deal, they no longer need the UK, although Honda say not, they say all to do with major market consolidation.
Couldn't have come at a worse time, I say this as someone who works in manufacturing.

Does Turkey fall into the Japan's Economic Partnership Agreement with the EU?

Honda is also closing one of its Plants in Japan. Is that down to Brexit?
With the move away from Diesel engines and the move towards Electric vehicles in the not too distant future you will see other car manufacturers follow suit.

I'd like to see some clarification on the position of the Turkish plant. A senior manager from there has been quoted as saying that it will be used to produce electric vehicles. If that's the case, and the Swindon plant wasn't considered for such investment, then that suggests that Brexit is an issue regardless of what has been said publicly (and diplomatically).
