Have you thought of flying out of Heathrow? I know it would mean a 3 1/2 hour drive but should save you quite a bit as there’s so many flights.
I’m in west wales and have similar issues but had bargain flights with BA to Rome returning last Tuesday.

Aw thanks for the suggestion but as I’m travelling with my grandmother I’m not sure she’d be up for travelling a few hours by train then getting on a plane... I could break the journey up by booking a hotel the night before and travelling then but in doing that the cost becomes not too far off what it is to fly from MAN.

I’m having to wait to receive my flight refund (which I’m told will be Monday/Tuesday at the latest) before I can book new flights as it wasn’t money I’d budgeted on spending. Hopefully the flights will still be a decent price and if not we’re going to book for May instead as although hotel is non refundable, it’s cheaper and Dark Rome (tickets only) have been amazing and said they’d issue a full refund or we could rebook the Vatican and Colosseum tickets for no extra charge for May dates.

It’s a bit of a let down to add on another couple of months waiting time but I don’t want to be held to ransom by airlines shoving the price up as they know lots of people are in the same boat, and hey at least we’d still be going!

As an aside Ryanair flights for May are £64 each 🙄

Just wanted to add that it doesnt matter what the T&Cs say. any regulation trumps it. the regs say that because you booked a package and the flight was cancelled you can claim a full refund for the whole holiday or the holiday company should book alternative flights for you. I work in regulation and got offered a role at the civil aviation authority (which i turned down to work for another regulator!). i recommend making a formal complaint with the holiday company and also emailing the caa so they are aware.

Thank you! I did not realise this was the case. I just got the T&Cs quoted at me! I didn’t realise they had a responsibility to refund the entire cost!

If so, that would mean I could rebook elsewhere for May at a similar price to what paid now and save around £700 on a new flight and another hotel night.

It’s a complete shambles! Have they managed to find alternative flights?

No, I think they have now cancelled the whole thing. Not sure what this means for refund etc

It’s a minefield for sure and do let them know to ask about the responsibility of the company to refund or find alternatives if they’ve booked a package as I certainly wasn’t told that.

Hi,

Yes, it’s those flights I was looking at.. the Jet2 ones. However for three of us they now want £555 for the flight and we’d need an additional day at the hotel too.

For reference the original flights are £265, which is similar to prices in May so it looks like we’ll just rebook for them.

If I can ever get a refund out of loveholidays for the entire package.
