As you know we are going to be doing a similar trip next year. 4 days seems like a long time to get from jackson to Denver (we are planning to do it in a day) but if you wanted to do it, there’s a few places I’ve thought of stopping basically on the way.

Thermopolis - I want to just stop here because of the name but there are always loads of natural spas / hot springs, most of which are free

Cheyenne - I think this would be an interesting place to stop and learn more about cowboys!

Don’t forget the Rocky Mountains are pretty much in Denver, so you could always have a day exploring the National Park before you fly home.

After one night in Rawlins, just to break the journey, we spent a few days in the Rocky Mtn NP between Jackson Hole and Denver. We based ourselves in Estes Park, it’s a beautiful area. We stayed in Cheyenne at the start of our trip which coincided with the rodeo.

We'd also recommend a visit to the Rocky Mountains National Park, & we also stayed in Estes Park for our visit in 2015. The Park is beautiful!

Sorry, I can’t recommend any places - not that they weren’t any good but it was 14 years ago!

If you are a fan of The Shining you could always stay in The Stanley hotel! (It was apparently inspiration for Stephen King to write the book) looks like a pretty amazing hotel as well!

We stayed at Estes Park Bed & Breakfast, & it was fantastic! We'd stay there again in a heartbeat!
