Your GP will be best placed to advise you but may not want to prescribe hormone tablets for a minor.

I’m pretty sure that the doctor won’t prescribe anything for a child this young, it’s not without it’s risks unfortunately and I believe NICE guidelines have changed recently regarding its prescribing to minors.

Is ot just me thinking your poor dd will be mortified her dad is asking this about her?! 🙈
I agree with others, I doubt a GP will prescribe anything for someone so young, esp of only just started. There's plenty of time for her cycle to change between now and then so she might only miss a day or so of swimming. Most but is that age only gave light/short cycles anyway.

Part of me thought this at first but we would think differently if it was a woman asking? I think it is a great thing that a dad is taking an active interest and thinking about the awful impacts of what us women have to go through and taking his daughter into consideration. Op I wouldn't be wanting a girl to take tablets to suppress her periods. Like others have said I would look into period swimwear. |

I too have to agree with others, just because we can do something medically, it doesn’t mean we have to. I think, for such a young, girl interfering with her natural hormone balance for a holiday and not for a medical condition is not something I would ever believe is right. However I do love the fact that you, as her dad, are man enough and caring penlight to discuss this on a forum. We need more men to speak about periods etc. No young girl or women should feel embarrassed about a natural biological occurrence in front of the opposite sex

I agree you shouldn't be messing about with her hormones at her age. It's going to be annoying for her but lets face it, she's got 40 years of annoyance to come, she may as well get used to it now

My daughter has taken these tablets for holidays, she was slightly older but no side affects. I've taken them too and will be again for this years holiday. I can't see the issue in taking them for a short amount of time if it means she can fully enjoy the holiday, obviously only if GP guidance says it is okay.

Check with your GP as I know consultants that I work with will not prescribe norethisterone to younger girls. You can get period pants to make things more comfortable and you can also get period swimwear so she can still go swimming, pantyprop/ it’s an American company but worth seeing if they ship/or an equivalent in the UK. And for what it’s worth, I think it’s great to see a dad trying to help with these things, rather than leave it all up to Mum!
