Anyone worked in the funeral business?
Husband just been given a full time job with a funeral directors after working for them on the bank since the beginning of the year. He really enjoys it. I mean it is what it is, but he likes doing the service. And the money is good.

Funeral directors provide such an important service to people, often at the worst times of their lives, so its wonderful that your husband enjoys it, not least because that will come through to the people he deals with

It’s my Dad’s funeral tomorrow. I’m dreading it but the care and love we have received after losing my dad so unexpectedly and suddenly has really been amazing.

I've become quite good friends with our local funeral director, met her first when I was mystery shopping her branch (l know that sounds weird lol) and when someone close to me was organising a funeral and was quoted an outrageous price I suggested we have a chat with her and she was brilliant as well as thousands cheaper... she now has buried a few of our loved ones and weirdly is literally around the corner since we moved. We often chat.
It really is a service and a good funeral director can make an really difficult time so much easier for families. |

An ex work colleague of mine when he retired did about 10 years with a local funeral company.
He only did the funerals not the back office stuff. He was the man in the Top Hat who escorted the hearse and did an excellent job in managing the cortege etc. He enjoyed it.

My DD's boyfriend's mum is a Funeral Director in Kent. She loves it. She left for a short while to do the Accountant job she was trained for but went back to the Funeral business quite quickly. I think it' would be an interesting job.

The funeral director who dealt with my dads funeral was fantastic. So kind, caring and compassionate. I actually saw her in Asda a few months later and she came over to ask how I was. Like another poster said, I think if you husband likes his job, this will shine through to the families who will need it at such a dreadful time in their lives. It just makes it all that little bit easier.

my father in law drove a funeral car for a few years after retiring, it was part time but he just really did it as/when he was needed/could be bothered
he really enjoyed it, think he was quite conscious of the service he was doing weirdly though said it was good crack with lots of gallows humour with his colleagues he is a sardonic git at times so was right up his street... |

I was a nurse and the funeral business was my other choice. Both providing care at what is usually the worst moments in life.

My ex brother in law works for a funeral home. He really enjoys it. He's worked in security and offshore. Not something I thought I'd see him doing. I must admit I had to sit on my hands the other day when he went past in a funeral car my instinct was to wave but I resisted 😬
