Just wanted something that can take video and photos really.
In that case I’d be looking for a decent compact. It’s worth looking at what people use for vlogging, I know the TimTracker uses a good compact, but I can’t for the life of me remember what it is.

He was at one stage using a Canon G5 I think it's called
I have a high end compact with 4k a Panasonic TZ100.
I love my GoPro Hero 7 Black though, it's brilliant. I cannot over emphasise the fact it has amazing stabilisation on it at 4k and fully stabilised Timewarp. Yes it's more expensive, but you won't miss the £100 extra, but you'll certainly miss the stabilisation.

That's he one I'm looking at... what's your view on the still shots it takes? Have you one you can show me please. Am I right in saying you don't need waterproof housing for it?

I haven't got any still shots but they are pretty decent.

It's a bit better now as there was recently a software update that made panning shots buttery smooth.

The video wasn't perfect as the camera was set on the wrong setting (24/30) for the electricity supply in Lanzarote which is why some of the lights were flashing indoors. Schoolboy error, with setting, not camera.

Every camera has a setting for frame rate. Just in some countries the electricity runs on a different frequency. If you have it on the wrong frame rate, some inside lights flicker that is all. That applies to every camera on the planet.
The settings on the GoPro are at the basic end of the spectrum as far as cameras go.
