I used one for our trip video backup a few weeks back.
The user interface takes a little getting used to but once I got my head around it it was fine.

Ok so the device arrived last night but due to an emergency requirement by DD18 to get her Dad (me) to drive to McDonald's I didn't get a chance to do anything with it last night apart from put it on charge. So this morning I connected it up to the wired network here, did a software upgrade changed the SID and passwords and away we go.

However

I work on the principle that if you have to remember to do a backup then that is prone to error. DO you know if it is possible to setup up mobile devices (android) to automatically upload their DCIM folders to the storage on the FileHub or does it have to be done manually?

I do have other automatic backups (and backups of backups) which are all completely automatic but the idea of this was to get all the backups from all the devices in one place.

I think this has potential to be a very useful device so thanks to whoever pointed it out (Wayne originally I think)

Regards

BB

i've not tried it, but you could probably set up a scheduled rsync job on your phone using something like this:

play.google/store/apps/d...cwrapper&hl=en

(i use rsync on my computers at home to do similar jobs)

I use OneDrive an my android phone auto-uploads any photos taken to it. You can set upload over WiFi only if you want to not use mobile data. Regarding the size limit, you can increase to 1TB for £5.99 a month and cancel at any time. Hope this helps.

I have One Drive set up on my Android and it does an automatic backup - yes I have it set to only do it only Wifi. I then have a couple of NAS drives that sync with one drive so that I have backups of the backups. All of this is completely automatic. Because I have an Office 365 subscription it means I get 1TB of storage which should keep me going for a while

The thing I don't like with one drive is that you can't specify (which folder) the photos get uploaded to which is a pain. In in my example I have 3 users with android phones and it would be great if the photos could be uploaded to (example)

user 1 uploads to /pictures/user 1
user 2 uploads to /pictures/user 2

etc

but I can't find a way in one drive of doing this and I want everyone to use the same one drive account

Thanks for you input btw

I can see how some people would find these useful but I bought two and they have hardly been used at all. It does beg the question why I bought a second but that's BB logic for you!

We have all of ours backing up to google drive. You could either all use the same google account. Or share the folders with each other. We went for shared folders as I don’t want every daft selfie with Snapchat filters on.
