Bereavement counselling
Has anyone ever been through this... it's been over 3 years since my mum died but it still feels like it was yesterday... even now I still wake up at night and go into her bedroom expecting her to be there... has counselling helped? I just need some sort of help

I had counselling through Macmillan when I lost my husband, it really did help that I had somewhere to go to talk, laugh and cry. I learned all about mindfulness and relaxation techniques and most of all I learned that I was allowed to be angry and that grief is an ok emotion

Hi Princess so sorry to hear about your mum. I lost my beloved dad suddenly 15 years ago it was so unexpected and such a massive shock I went for counselling. I first attended a 1:1 counselling session at my local hospital. I also contacted Cruse Bereavement they were fantastic. It was a group session and there was about 12 of us in attendance each week with two Counsellors. I was the most recently bereaved but there were also people who had lost loved ones years previously but who were still grieving and needed support. Attending this group really helped me it was the best thing I ever did. We would all talk about our loved ones, how we felt, emotions, you were free to cry without being judged etc. I really don't know how I would have got through life without it. I hope you can get the support you need x.

I also lost my mum three years ago. I went to bereavement counselling last year as I had developed anxiety and depression. Best thing I ever did, was a chance to just cry and get everything off my chest. Talking to someone not involved really helped and also gave me the tools to cope. I hope you find a way to cope and move forward. We never stop grieving but it gets easier xxxx

My Dad died 16 years ago when I was 30 and my girls were 6 months old. He had a terminal illness and at the time I didn't properly grieve. About 18 months later it all got too much and counselling helped me through it. It wasn't specific bereavement counselling as lots of other things were tied in together but it did really help.

Sending you lots of hugs please don't put pressure on yourself the process of grief is unique to us all. Counciling could help you I would advise having a chat with your gp as they can arrange special counciling in grief on the NHS. Elizabeth Kubler Ross was the lady who done a lot of work/research on crieff and she devised the 5 stages of grief I would recommend reading. Wishing you well, take care.

I had bereavement counselling arranged for me by Occupational health at work after DH died. It was arranged really quickly and although I was a bit sceptical to start with I found it really useful
I also used a telephone 1:1 counsellor through my work union RCN. If I had needed to there was also provision through my DH life insurance policy and details of how to access it was sent through to me. In our area we have a ' Health in Mind' service that you can self refer to or GP can refer to If our local hospice service have been involved they can also help. My Mum attends a bereavement group run by our local church after Dad died and they have volunteers with some counselling skills Hope your family member can access some help Edited at 11:45 PM. I had counselling through cruise when my husband died, it was really helpful as I could talk about anything and everything with them. I also talked to the Samaritans a few times (not that I was suicidal )
