Yep I noticed that was happening quite often too.

Last few times I’ve had a selling spree I’ve used Hermes, cheaper than Royal Mail and tracked. Didn’t have any issues then at all.

Always use Hermes for deliveries. I do think Ebay is more concerned with extracting fees out of people rather than equal rights for buyers and sellers. Then you have Paypal fees on top! One word of caution, I recently bought some Sellotape on ebay. The advert said the product would be removed from the original packaging for ease of posting. What I got looked like Sellotape but certainly wasn't when I went to use it. 'Removing the original packaging' can be an excuse for fakes!

OP - you do realise that parcels posted at the post office all come with free proof of delivery?

Surely only proof of posting is free? Proof of delivery, ie signed for is chargeable.

No they don’t. You get a proof of posting, that is not proof of delivery.

With the Post Office proof of posting of parcels and large letters over 100g, there is a reference number you can check delivery. Signed for costs £1 extra for a signature.

We use Hermes too, can't stand royal mail for their tracking service it's daft.

Hermes update you every step of the way

Fair enough. Don't bother keying in the 16 digit code on your proof of posting receipt in to RM tracking site then.

What would I know when I'm posting stuff every day...

An an ebay user I am also frustrated, because they are chasing more used item sellers off and ebay is becoming a market for new items only. Many of these seller are including an unrelated item in their listing so they can have their price show at 99p and it comes top when sorted by price.
