Royal Caribbean Alaska Radiance of the Sea
Has anyone done Alaska with RCI?
We've done P&O, Princess and Celebrity but never RCI. I have found a deal (I think) from Vancouver - 9 nights Vancouver, Sitka, Hubbard Glacier, Juneau, Skagway, Icy Straight Point, Ketchikan, Vancouver. They are doing a guarantee balcony for £2500 and if I pick my cabin its £3200 - plus I can get 10% with my Blue light card. So that's around £500 difference between the guarantee and the selected cabin. Is it worth it? Thats a lot of drinks (but we dont drink much) or a few excursions, a couple of nights in a hotel etc but would we cope with the stress of potentially getting a forward balcony? In not sure DH could do it! As a comparison Celebrity are coming in a £3900 including a drinks package and $150 OBC and Princess are over £4K But is it soo much cheaper for a reason? I need to add flights on top too. Thoughts anyone? Edited at 12:30 PM. |

The guarantee is worth a gamble, because I believe when you get allocated, if there is a similar cabin in another location free you can ask to move to it.
Also, a forward balcony is not really much of an issue, in Alaska I think its pretty calm waters a lot of the time? We have had far forward cabins a few times on celebrity and not noticed it in terms of movement, only a bit of noise when docking in some ports.

Its also a fair price as it doesnt include all the drink package etc. As you say, you can spend the money you are saving (considerable) on tours, drinks, hotel etc. Fly in a good couple of days early as Vancouver is a fantastic city. Sounds like a great plan!

I’d take the gamble on a guarantee cabin. Royal are also operating a royal up programme now on most sailings which means you may get the chance to bid for a balcony or suite if there are any available (usually about two months before you sail) so you could end up getting a bargain if you’re not happy with the cabin they allocate.
We always stay in inside cabins and have been in various locations. I do prefer mid ship but it’s not a dealbreaker. |
