Passports renewal to do so or not?

Hi we are going to Greece in May half term this year and then we are due to go to Mexico in end July / beg August this year also.

My 9 year olds passport expires 2 November 2020.

Do I need to renew ?
Mine needs renewing after January 2021 but I was thinking I might wait and do my sons and mine together in January . However will only having 3 months left on his passport effect our Mexico trip in August?

From the info in the link below it isn�t a problem only having 3 months validity left for Mexico.
