Sandra, I just read that he has Alzheimer’s. My dad had dementia too but would talk about things he loved when he was a child and teen. He used to cycle race and would tell me about a shop/cafe that they would stop off at and buy homemade dandelion and burdock and sarsaparilla. I eventually tracked somewhere down that sold old fashioned bottles of it and bought him some. He loved it. Is there anything like that that your fil talks about? It really brought my dads youth back for him.

My fil is another cyclist and so is dh, not that he has done much lately. Dh said dad what do you want for your birthday dad and he said I want to get back on the bike. I’m not sure but dh might know what he will like, he likes trifle and Chelsea buns.

Aww bless him. It’s so hard and sad isn’t it. My dad could reminisce about things in years gone by (he had a very interesting life) but couldn’t remember whether he’d had dinner that day. 😢

He is the same talks about his life and holidays they’ve had in the past, cycle races and clubs he belonged to. He hasn’t seen Luke since he came back from Canada so that will be a nice surprise for him. He knew he was coming back but has probably forgotten when, Luke’s been isolating so can’t visit him yet. Xx

I recently went for a posh afternoon tea at a local hotel, one of the most delicious things was wheaten bread with a thin layer of cream cheese and smoked salmon on top, then a few chilli flakes to garnish the salmon.
Absolutely delicious 😋

My MIL was 80 last year, she has dementia too My SIL did a photo album for her and she loved it. She still sits and looks through it. Agree with the music idea too.

I came here to recommend photos too- I would have some framed family photos on the table. Perhaps you could do a little quiz- who’s in this photo, where was this taken, what year was this etc- to give the older guests something to talk about with the younger ones.
