Only you can decide what's right for you and your family.
( we were lucky enough to go back two years ago with out the kids for dh 40th birthday and had a ball)

I disagree.. we took our kids when they were 18 mths and 5 and then 3.5 and 7 and there is so much to do .. We are taking them next week and will spend 11 days in Vegas and the kids will be 9.5 and 13.

There is a whole list of things you can do with children.. i did a long long list not to long ago.. infact i'll try and find it this week and ask if it can be made into a sticky for people to refer to.

As for the porn card slappers..they dont bother you if you have kids with you.. and at the end of the day they are pieces of paper with girls on .. walk down any beach in Europe and i'll guarantee you your kids will see more exposed flesh. My kids were exposed to far more sleeze and drunken behaviour in a weekend in Blackpool than they ever have been in Las Vegas.

Back to the drawing board lol xx
Please dont give up on the idea without looking into it first, i will find tomorrow the long list of things i put on here that kids can enjoy. I dont have my kids out on the strip at midnight but in the daytime and early evenings its no different to any other touristy place.. People say its not for kids.. well dont people in Vegas have kids lol?

I can honestly say eveytime the kids have been with us we have never been approached by the card people and i have never seen others be either and even last yr when we went as a couple we just avoided making eye contact with them.. they dont (in our experiance) get nasty or force cards on you.

My kids are soo excited to be going back next week.

Ok some of the things we have done with the kids and will do next year are..
Madame Tussuards
Top of the Stratosphere
MGM Lions
Secret Garden at the Mirage (Tigers, Dolphins etc)
M&M'S World
Gameworks
Gondola ride at the Venetian
Go up the Eiffel Tower
Watch the Bellagio fountains (many times!)
Sirens shows at Treasure Island
Ferrari dealership at the Wynn (son is a petrol head)
Visit all the hotels.. We tend to split the strip into 3 parts..and do one bit each day
Hoover Dam
Lake Mead
Grand Canyon.. we did a heli trip
Night flight down the strip
Titantic exhibition
Spongebob 4d ride at the Excalibur
Bodies Exhibtion at Luxor
CSI game thing at MGM
Red Rock Canyon
Aquarium at Mandalay Bay
Ethel M chocolate factory and cactus garden.
We also visit the off strip hotels like Sams town, New Orleans etc,Palace Station etc.

We will also drive them out and about in Vegas.. take them into what i call real Vegas and into the desert a little bit.. so they see what its really like.

Oh and a fun place to eat with kids is Roxys diner in the Stratosphere, one of the cheapest we had this year but excellant quality and so much fun.

I think with the recent economic problems world wide there is bound to be an increase in homeless and down and outs on the street in places like Vegas which has been hit hard!

as for the 'slappers' I will having my 11th trip in 4 weeks time and I haven't seen any change in the number of those on the street and I never saw them put them into the hands of children or try and give them to anyone who didn't put their hands out to get them.

It is called Sin City for a reason after all.

Personally I do find it is more adult themed and yet many people go year in and year out with their children, I have spoken to numerous American people who take their children there yearly for a holiday.

All major hotels have their own pools, some more spectacular than others, I believe the Mandalay Bay has a fantastic pool with wave machine (I may be wrong) and the MGM has a lazy river.

Circus Circus has a dome with many rides, some white knuckle rides too!

There is the dolphin habitat in the Mirage and the shark reef aquarium at the the Mandalay bay.

Obviously there are the free highlights such as the Sirens at TI, the Volcano at the Mirage and the famous fountains of the Bellagio!

I'm not sure if I'd want to take a child for an extended period but there is plenty to entertain a child for 4-5 days without leaving the Strip!

That's a great list Daytonababe, thanks

I'm not going to show it to my kids though as it'll end up costing a fortune doing all those things

We're going with our two boys, 11 & 13. I'm not too sure about Vegas myself, I laughed when you mentioned Blackpool. That's how I'm imagining it, Blackpool but bigger

Saying that, I'm looking forward to it for DW (40th birthday whilst in Vegas) and there certainly does seem to be plenty to do with the kids. I'm sure we'll run out of time before we run out of things to do, as we are only there for 4 nights.

Thanks again for your excellent post.

Phil

When you say it's a lot of fun, what do you mean - is it themed or something?

Just back from LV with our 13 and 11 yr old boys. They enjoyed themselves - tho walking The Strip can be very tiring (and my kids are used to walking).

Would I take them again, no I wouldn't - purely because we'd like to do some more grown up things, like having a drink at a bar (children are not allowed near bars there).

Like Daytonababe says, there is plenty for kids to do. As for the
"Slappers", not sure what happened during the time we were there, but on the first 2 nights, you couldn't move for them, then they all disappeared the next couple of nights.

If you son doesn't like the parks because of crowds, etc - then I would suggest if you choose to go to LV, then go in a quieter month. It was fine last week up until Fri - when this weekend was President's Day weekend - then it became heaving!

As for seeing anything inappropriate - apart from the "slapper" cards, there are some billboards with scantily clad men and women and a few "dodgy" shops, but on the whole it is a great place to visit.

Might be a silly question, but are kids ok in the hotel bars, more specifically the bar of the hotel you are staying at? (We're at the Signature at MGM, which I'm hoping has a bar!)

We stayed there and no, children are not allowed in any bar

There is a bar in Tower 1, and obviously in the main MGM Grand Hotel. As the boys weren't allowed to be with us in a bar, we bought beer from the local Walgreens and took it back to our room.

Thanks for posting this again Daytonababe I spent ages trying to find it the other day. We are going with my 12 & 10 yr old DDs in August. I'm still trying to decide which hotel to stay at
