We did it the opposite way round a couple of years ago. Had a great time. Our only regret is we only had 4 days in San Fran and could easily have filled more - guess we will have to re-visit

Tons to see and loads of places to stop and visit and the coastline is stunning

Thanks Nicki!
Did you have kids in tow? We have an 8yr old.
So how long do you think we'd need in SF?
Thanks xx

No kids in tow for me - I had 2 OAP's in the form of my parents - they reckon its a time in life where they get to be chauffered and not the other way round

I could easily fill 7-10 days in San Fran area but not entirely sure an 8 yr old would agree. I would say have a look at the things you want to see/do and then add a couple of days on as extra because you may find more stuff to do/see once you get there (we did).

We're also planning on doing the same in August 2013 - hoping to visit San Francisco, Pismo Beach (for a few days chilling out), Los Angeles and San Diego. So much to do and so little time...

I did but almost 17 years ago now! It was a great holiday and great scenery. There is so much to do in the San Fran area. I am sure you will have a wonderful time!

We did this back in 2006 with a 11 year old and a 6 year old. It was a lot of travelling but both San Diego and San Fran were worth it. I think we stayed 4 days in each. We found a great location just outside San Diego called La Jolla, we stayed there a couple of days and we loved it and would love to go back there. San Fran was fab make sure you do Alcatraz it was the highlight of my trip! The drive from San Diego was broken up by a stop in LA, Santa Barbara and Montrery. We also drove from San Fran to the Sanoma Valley where we experienced a wine tour which was well worth it in my opinion! You will have a fab time if you decide to go with your plan!

Wee did it 15 years ago without kids. Flew to San Fran for 3 days, picked up a car and drove along the pacific road. We spent a night in Monterey, Santa Babra and then a few nights in LA, then drove onto SD. Fantastic holiday and would recomend it, as you get to see so much
