Thomas Cook - My DLP Booking?

Morning All,

Quick question... Booked DLP accomodation via Thomas Cook, paid deposit. Is my contract with Thomas Cook (accommodation cancelled!) or is it via a 3rd party/direct with DLP (accommodation safe!)...?

I'm going to dig out the receipt I got a bit later and try and figure it out but wondered if any of you guys had a clue...

Unfortunately I believe that if you booked with Thomas Cook then your accommodation booking is lost.

There is ATOL protection on package holidays (flights and hotels booked together), but not for hotel only. Check the booking confirmation you received to see if there is any mention of ATOL protection on your booking.

If not you should be able to make a claim against your credit/debit card for the refund of your deposit.

If you paid via credit card and the deposit was more than £100 then call your provider and initiate a S75 claim. If you paid via debit card call your bank and initiate a charge back request.

Hope that helps.

Cheers. I'll see who I can phone as obviously there doesn't appear to be a Thomas Cook number and all the news keeps going on about is flights/airports/package holidays... No bloody use to me unfortunately... !

I emailed magic breaks (where you usually get sent if you're looking on the Thomas cook website). If you booked through them there's nothing to worry about. I'm at work so can't put the email here, but will try to remember later.

Also, if you booked the hotel, including the tickets, then you're protected by ABTA.

Also might be worth checking if your travel insurance has insolvency cover. Xx

I booked instore. I've no reference on paperwork that relates to Magic Breaks. I'm currently figuring that it's no longer valid and put a charge back claim in with the bank for my debit card payment.
Also thought "sod it" and have booked a different hotel direct with DLP as i've already paid for Eurostar so once way or another we will be going...

As Magic Breaks are owned by Thomas Cook then are they not impacted by TC going bust?

They aren't owned by them.

The reply to my email asking for clarification as I have a booking with them:

"Dear MagicBreaks Customer

We were sad to hear the Thomas Cook Group collapsed in the early hours of today after being in business for 178 years.≈Our company is not part of the Thomas Cook Group and you have no need to be concerned about MagicBreaks.≈

We can confirm that MagicBreaks is≈notpart of the Thomas Cook Group.≈

MagicBreaks is a trading name of World Travellers UK Limited, which has been operating for 19 years.≈ The company is wholly owned by its founder-directors, Tom Dunkley and Karl Harrison.≈≈ We are an independent travel company with very experienced management and a strong balance sheet.≈≈≈ There is no other company with any financial interest in MagicBreaks.≈≈ Our company is≈not≈part of the Thomas Cook Group. You have no need to be concerned about MagicBreaks and you can book your holiday safely and securely with us either online or through one of our specialist agents.

All holiday packages made through MagicBreaks are protected.≈ If your holiday contains a flight then it will be protected under the ATOL scheme operated by the Civil Aviation Authority.≈ All other packages are protected through ABTA.

A small part of our business provides services to some Thomas Cook customers booking their holiday at Disneyland Paris.≈ We also purchase some services from Freedom Travel Group Limited, a company in which the Thomas Cook Group plc has an interest.≈≈ Thomas Cook is a very large and longstanding travel company in the UK and it is likely that most travel businesses here have some sort of operational connection to it.≈ The directors of MagicBreaks are paying close attention to developments at Thomas Cook and we are continuing to take steps to minimise any impact on our company.≈

We are very happy to be working as normal, providing magical holiday experiences for our customers with the benefit of full financial protection on the packages they book with us.

Regards

Tina"

I cannot see any link between Magic Breaks and Thomas Cook, Magic Breaks is a trading name of World Travellers UK Limited which according to Companies House is a stand alone company.

They also say on their about us section of the website that they are independent. So no impact from the TC collapse as far as I can tell.

I also thought they were connected more, as when you go onto the Thomas Cook website (or did), and looked at Disneyland Paris, they transferred you to Magic Breaks. I honestly thought they were a branch of theirs. X

OK, they do or did accept Thomas Cook gift cards/vouchers and I remember seeing wording to the effect somewhere once that they are or were part of the TC group.
