Grocerie Costs at Supermarkets
Hi Dibbers, We have a villa booked for next April and will be "self catering" for the most part. It has been a few years since we last had a villa and used a supermarket so I'm trying to get an average cost of the essentials such as bread, milk, cereals etc. I have tried to find out costs from Publix but can't seem to access their website, can get on it but no info, to find costs. Anybody out there at the moment been into a supermarket recently and able to give rough costs?
Many thanks. Budmiester |

Managed to find some prices for Walmart.
grocery.walmart/ I remember in 2016, I was shocked at the prices. Especially for things like bread which at home you can buy for pennies. Dread to think what the prices are like now. |

I think you really need to look at the prices and options and you can get some good deals. We bought white sandwich bread for 97c - not our usual option at home but fine. Mangos were 60c, but apples were $4 for a big bag. Smart price cereal was $1.70, and smart price pop tarts were $1, but three times the price for named boxes. We accidentally bought a box of strawberries for $6 the first year!

Can you get on the Aldi USA website?
It gives prices on there , to give you an idea. If you have issues getting on US sites it maybe an idea to download a VPN which will allow you to see some prices at Publix,I think though it only gives prices for items on offer not the whole range. |

I find Public prices ok. Nothing to shout about but nothing really to moan about either.
However what does shock me every time is the price of decent apples. We like Fuji ones and 5 apples comes in at circa $7

I think with produce if you buy local, you do much better. I live in an apple growing area and we can buy apples by the tote for $.79/ a pound, about $4. for a good 20 apples. I have never paid less than a dollar for a mago.
I think hoe expensive groceries (and everything) seems also reflects the pound to dollar conversion. I hope your pound picks up before you go. I remember when the pound was more than 2 to 1 and isn't is almost 1 to 1 know? |

I think you should be able to look at prices on the Walmart website, I know I did it from home last year. A gallon of milk was $2.49 in Target last night, a punnet of strawberries $2.99 (but also buy one get one half price), bananas $1.20 and I got 6

I also got cereal from publix like honey nut Cheerios - they were around $4 each but it was buy one get one free . Got some lovely banana bread slices from Walmart which we had for breakfast too $4 - water was around $2.50 for 10 or 12 pack . Chips ahoy biscuits $3-50 - can you tell we eating healthily 😀 3 red apples over $2 and bananas were reasonably priced . Ready made salad with ham bits was $3.48 which we had with pizza flatbread for lunch which were $5 . I was dreading the prices but they not as bad as I thought .

Just back also and prices do vary.
Personally found Publix had better deals for the things we needed. This link may help to give you a view on weekly offer/standard prices across different supermarkets weeklyads2/
