Endoscopy with sedation - next 24/48 hours - update post 34 25/10

So I have to have an endoscopy- great
Never had one before but been recommended by the doctor to have sedation
So going to take his advice I think
Now the girl booking me the appointment said I had to have someone with me for 24 hours after the procedure and that I couldn’t drive for 24 hours - no problem
But what are those next 24/48 hours like?
I’m having the procedure first thing Saturday morning
I play table tennis for Bury and there is a full day on the Sunday playing against other town players - which will include the odd county player so it’s a decent standard
But will I feel up to playing ?
Will I be groggy ?
Will I feel exhausted ( I find these Sunday events physically demanding at the best of times )
Would I be best to see if I could get a slot on the Friday instead ?

Thanks for any advice

I felt a bit groggy for 24 48 hours. And a bit lethargic. Plus was a little more sore than I had anticipated
Just showed what effect the sedation had as I hadn't noticed earlier.

Everyone is different though.

You’ll be ok but drowsy. I wouldn’t plan on much activity for 24 hours after.

My dad had this procedure done today, he didn’t have sedation, just the throat spray and said it was fine

I have had it done before and had sedation, felt a bit groggy for a few hours

Hope it goes well

I had one and had a few hours in hospital recovery and the rest of the next 24hrs I don’t remember a thing - felt spaced out and tired for a couple of days and but floaty. I guess there are different types of sedation (mine was deep as had surgery) and we all have different recovery times.

I had it done with sedation, the sedation definitely worked and I didn't and still don't remember a thing. I went home, slept a while then was right as rain. Next day I was completely fine. Just listen to your body and best of luck .

Do you get throat spray and sedation or one or the other, I asked for sedation but could feel everything and had throat spray. I don’t think I had sedation but can’t seem to remember. I felt ok after I was just glad it was over, wasn’t groggy at all.

Sedation they put a cannula in your hand and take bp - it’s like having a general and I had to count backwards from 10 then the next thing I was aware of is I came round in recovery room . There was no mistaking for me

OP. My Daughter had one without sedation. She did say she wished she had!

Best of luck with the procedure.

Most people I know (including my OH) haven't taken the sedation. In fact I don't know anyone who has opted for the sedation.
My OH said it wasn't uncomfortable at all - just felt a bit strange while it was happening.
