Cancer / changing plans help

Hello all,

We provisionally put a deposit down for a week at WL this August with free ddp with a view to then having 1-2 weeks in a villa too - all DIY.

Before we really got planning I had some health problems and then I've recently been diagnosed with cancer I'm having surgery soon and they are hopeful that will be all, possibly some radiotherapy but will have to wait and see by the end of feb if that's needed.

Anyway, what we really want to do is postpone the holiday to July 2016. We've booked nothing except the week at WL with free DDP so I'm wondering if it would be possible to transfer the deposit to a similar week a year later? Would I need to wait till ? april for offers about free DDP to see if I can get an offer or do you think I'd have to loose my deposit and pay another?

I'm also worrying about insurance with a cancer diagnosis - although we wouldn't be booking unless I'm all clear but I'm worrying that we won't be able to get insurance... any advice on that score?

So sorry to hear your news! Hope everything goes well with your surgery and recovery! Big hugs to you and your family!
I know you can change disney date without charge as we have recently changed August date to December, unsure about the ddp though. I thinks it's probably best to give disney a call, if they can't offer dinning plan until April just say you'll leave the booking as it is (until April)?
Hope that helps a little! X

sorry to hear about your health problems and I hope everything goes well for you.
Deposits rules differr with the different agents. Bottom line is you probably arent going to know until you ring and ask them.
A couple of years ago I booked pop century room only with Disney UK. I then came into a bit of money and wanted to change to Animal Kingdom Lodge and they had a free QS dining plan offer on at the time. I couldnt do it without losing my deposit so I suspect that you cant book a room only deal now with them and change later if free DDP comes out. I guess you wont know until you ask though. In the US its much easier to swap deals as they come out but UK agents seem to be really strict on this.

You should still be able to get insurance. I know several people who have travelled with a cancer diagnosis so you should have no problem after treatment. There are several insurance companies that specialise in pre existing medical conditions, I use one myself. It will cost you a little more though.

Hope that helps and good luck with your treatment

Thank you all - very speedy responses!

I think we will wait till April time to see if there are any deals / offers on with disney - hoping for free ddp as we are villa people normally but fancied a change and to try the meals! Then phone them and hope for a bit of pixie dust to just transfer the booking to a new week with a new offer.

I'm a bit scared of looking at anything cancer related online so it's good to know there are insurers out there and hopefully in our budget!

Thank you for the well wishes. I'm devastated and have to have the worst surgery but I'm hoping I come out the other side intact xx

Hi, so sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis and forthcoming operation. I hope all goes well for you.

My little boy was diagnosed with cancer five months ago and we had a three week Florida trip booked for August this year, but had not booked insurance. We have recently cancelled our holiday as even deferring by a year would not have been enough time. We provided a copy of a letter signed by our oncology consultant confirming diagnosis, and Virgin have refunded our money without question. They have also sent our son a gift hamper. I hope that Disney treat you with similar compassion.

I totally understand your comment about not looking online for cancer information. If you do feel brave though, stick to cancer UK or McMillan - both are helpful and informative.

Good luck with your journey back to good health.
