Cody to Yellowstone

Has anyone stayed in Cody and travelled into Yellowstone? Is this feasible for a three night stay, ‘commuting’ into Yellowstone each day? Trying to get an idea of distances and travel times is quite tricky as I appreciate there is a significant amount of traffic through the park.

It must be 15 years since we visited Yellowstone. We stayed in Cody and then moved on to West Yellowstone. Personally I wouldn’t stay in Cody as a base for visiting Yellowstone - my guess would be a 5 to 6 hour daily commute. It’s a scenic road and traffic doesn’t move quickly.

:)

I wouldn't suggest basing yourself in Cody either, however we stayed overnight at Creekside Lodge at Yellowstone last year on our way in to YNP. It was about 10 miles from the Park's East Entrance, & about 35 miles from the Fishing Bridge Visitor Centre which was probably a good hour's drive away without any stops. It was nice, with 10 log cabins & a central lodge building which had a bar and restaurant. A couple of other similar-style lodges were nearby, including Elephant Head Lodge, & Pahaska Tepee which was bigger & busier with a gift shop that quite a few coaches seem to stop at.
Having said that, if you can, try to stay inside the Park to minimise the amount of driving you'll need to do while you're actually in YNP as it's huge! For an estimate of drive times, you should double the number of miles between A & B to roughly get the number of minutes it'll take without any stops for sightseeing or "animal jams". If you haven't already seen it, this map can help with distances in YNP:
