Manchester Direct with Virgin, all seem to have 1 stop

Good afternoon fellow Dibbers, I just need a little help.
We are planning to go to Orlando in December (5th to 19th) 2020 and was looking at flights. BA have a sale but don't fly out of Manchester, they take you to Gatwick but seem to cost around £150 per person extra for the additional connection, and the hassle of the stop. Gatwick is 3.5 hours drive away and we have done it once and never again, my head was bouncing off my shoulders coming home after the flight back and I felt positively shattered!

I have always flown Virgin from Manchester and that was always direct but looking at various dates for comparison of prices, I am only seeing the odd flight that goes direct and its extortionate. My dates are not available at the minute and Im getting a little worried that its going to be a one stop for us (DH not happy about it :-( )

Is this normal or do they release direct flights nearer the time?

Thanks so much xx

BA release their flights 355 days out and Virgin 330 so perhaps depending on your dates they haven't been released yet.

And it might be an idea to wait a little longer than that as they are usually expensive for the first couple of weeks or so after they go on sale.

Thank you :-)

I did think we will need to wait for BA have our dates available in the sale for around £875 Premium (equivalent) at the minute but Virgin seem to be another 3-4 weeks later looking at it. I have enough miles to upgrade if they will allow it but didn't want to pay high prices for flights with at least 1 stop (seems to be Atlanta).

Will keep monitoring

I’ve been keeping an eye on end of August into September flying from Manchester to get an idea for 2021 and have seen that all the returns are via Atlanta which seems very strange they have been like that since they came out !

Sorry no advice but I feel your pain! - I’ve been looking at direct flights from Manchester too (but for 21st August) and they are way out of our price range.
We flew from Gatwick last year and said never again too! (only due to the car journey back to Yorkshire of 4hrs was a killer)
However since the demise of Thomas Cook (who we went with this year frm Manchester) we don't have much option if we want to go...its gona be Gatwick again.

Good luck with your search.

Have you thought about booking a day room at an airport hotel for when you land if you have a long journey when you get back? You can rest/sleep for a few hours, have a shower and feel much more refreshed for the car journey home, day rooms are usually available until about 4 -6pm. Even with the hotel cost it could work out a lot cheaper so you can get the direct flight you want. I understand direct prices from Manchester are crazy at the moment.

I have changed a booking from 2020 - 2021 with virgin holidays and still seem to have a direct flight from Manchester.

Earlier this year we did the train from Yorkshire down to Gatwick airport, it wasn't bad at all and only about £30 each. Next time I would definitely look at one of the day time hotel rooms for a bit of a sleep before the journey back.
