Prom dress price?

That is so touching. Often too many people are 'priced' out of activities like this and its refreshing to see this. It restores your faith in human nature in what can be a very cynical world.

Especially when a lot of the time the group were a bunch of sods 😂😂... Shows everyone of em is decent deep down... Still friends 6 years on from leaving school

This situation in my town has led to a great scheme where people have donated their old prom dresses or any fancy gown to a local initiative that lends the dresses to those who are unable or don't want to pay out high sums for a dress that will in all probability be worn once.The only stipulation is the hirer has it cleaned before returning the dress .

My oldest daughter wanted to be like her friends and get fitted for a dress at over £500. She then changed her mind because they were all too blingy for her. In the end she got a secondhand one for under £100. My youngest daughter decided straight away on secondhand and got a dress that fits her perfectly for £80. Just needs dry cleaned and the accessories. Happy shopping.

My older daughter had a friend who's parents wouldn't (wouldn't not couldn't) buy her a dress. As my daughter had started an apprenticeship before prom and been paid her first wage she bought her friend a dress. It was a lipsy one that had been reduced to £15. When she was stood next to my daughter who's dress had cost over £400 with alterations you would not have known the dress she had paid £15 for was so much cheaper than the one my daughter was wearing.

I have my own bridal and prom dress business and i would say the average spend is around £150-£200, for designer ranges. We sell dresses from £40 right up to £225 but the more expensive ones, which tend to be very beaded are the best sellers. Hope that helps x

I think it depends upon what you/your daughter wants. I paid around £500 for my daughter's last year and that was cheap compared to others but there were some lovely cheaper ones. It also depends on where you buy them from. We got ours from a bridal shop but we did see some lovely dresses in Quiz, TK Maxx

I agree, there were no proms when i.was at school,it's a lot of pressure for parents x
