At the age of 62 I can't really remember any celebrations of St George's Day at all. I wonder how much of the population could actually name the month let alone the actual day.

Happy St George's Day to you all

I can remember celebrating it at school back in the late 60's and early 70's along with May day and the Harvest festival. All our local churches flew the cross of saint George on 23rd April. I think the flag flies all the time now.

Racecourse is open today.
They ask people not to walk where the horses race but other than that the gate opposite The Architect is open so it's a really good opportunity to walk around or sit for a picnic.

Happy St George's Day

On normal years, all the scouts, cubs and beavers in the area of Windsor march through the streets to the parish church on the nearest Sunday to St Georges day. All the children love it, but unfortuantly hasn't happen this year or last year.

Also at this time of year there is a Queen's scouts award at the castle.

My old mum and dad god bless em loved Vera Lynn.

Every Sunday after mums Victoria Sponge after us lads came in from trainspotting after Sing Something Simple and Minstrels (oops) they played a Mantovani LP then "good old Vera".

"She got us through the War and separation" Dad would say.

They'd dance to "their tune" A Nightingale Sang in Berkely Square.

They'd sing along to Dover and We'll Meet Again. But dad would always sing loudest (Beer at home means Davenports!) to There'll Always be an England.

Often saluting! 🤣

'Sit down Jim you daft beggar'

"We sang it on the ships, we sang it in the Jungle, we sang it in the camp, I'll sing it in me own back room!"

Happy Days.

Happy St George's Day everybody. It's a green and pleasant land.

"There'll always be an England
While there's a country lane
Wherever there's a cottage small
Beside a field of grain

There'll always be an England
While there's a busy street
Wherever there's a turning wheel and
A million marching feet

Red, white and blue
What does it mean to you!
Surely you're proud, shout it aloud
Britains, away"

Happy St George’s Day Dibbers.
We’re just off on our 6 mile dog walk and hoping to take in a drink and something to eat at one of the country pubs we will pass. The weather is glorious here on the Cheshire/Derbyshire border - we have telephoned one of the pubs about availability and fortunately for them (not us) they are booked up. They keep one or two tables for walk ups so maybe if our timing is right...

Great, thank you! I have to call into the centre but I may take a walk down to the racecourse.
I usually do 2 days at the May Festival but it’s behind doors this year so it will be nice just to have a look
