Transport to Universal from Disney hotels.

Evening all,

We are looking at staying onsite at Disney but will be doing some days over at Universal. Planning not really to get car hire, so just wondering what people usually do if they are stopping onsite but have tickets for Universal.

Also, what options do we have if we wish to go offsite for meals, maybe down Internation Drive? is there shuttle busses or anything or would it be taxi?

Thanks

We used Lyft(Uber rival) to get from our Disney Hotel to Universal and a separate trip to Discovery Cove. We downloaded the app before we went and found it quick and simple to use.
The drivers were all friendly and reliable and we thought the costs were reasonable.

No experience but suspect that Disney will do as little as they can to help you get off-site and give your money to competitors.
They prefer you to spend your dollars on their parks, shops, restaurants, golf courses, groceries etc.

I would use Uber to get to Universal as the cheapest and most convenient option. Where at Disney are you staying for us to suggest the best way to get to offsite dining options - there are likely easier / closer places than I Drive.

There is no way Disney are going to put on shuttles to get offsite, they want you onsite.

When we have moved hotels from Universal to Disney we have used one of the hotel cars. For daily trips, Uber or Lyft are a convenient and relatively economical option.

We did it through mears, a shared shuttle van return was about $20 each back in 2019, even booked it through the desk at the disney resort. just had to advise a pick up time and return time. We changed the return as we were done earlier which took about half an hour waiting, obviously uber is more convenient and in these days you would not be sharing with others

Thanks all. We are just trying to weigh up staying onsite or staying in a village with car.

We were looking at Caribbean Resort. Too much to chose from. We don't want to feel like we are missing out staying off site but know that gives us more freedom.

Have to do a plan today, see how much parking is etc at parks if we did fly drive and villa.

Go on the Google app and choose your start and finish points
Then select your choice of transport
You can then get an idea of price from uber and lyft

Also if you do get car hire and visiting universal price up one of your party getting an annual pass with complimentary parking which tbh isn't that much more than a 14 day pass and you can also get discounts on food and merchandise at universal

Factor in the fact you have to pay for parking if you stay at a Disney on-site resort now, so on-site or offsite, you’re still paying for parking.

That's one of the reasons we used to stay onsite with the perks of the complimentary parking and ddp but without them there are better offside options or in our case staying at universals cabana Bay. You get to use all the other universal hotels pools which you can't do pool hopping at disney
