A bit like marmite then. Might have a look on eBay.

I have the Gizeh style and have about 3 different colours. one pair is quite old so I use them around the house as slippers. they do feel hard to start with but like everyone says, they bed in around your feet. I couldn't get on with the Madrid style which is the one you mean I think, I felt like they just didn't feel secure. I wear flip flops as much as possible until it starts to snow lol and use my Birkie's as much as haviannas. They also corrected my plantar fasciitis as they put your feet and legs into the right position (I think) which does sometimes feel odd to start with.

Fitflops definitely stretch , I have a pair of lulu with blue sparkles and they are a nightmare to walk in now , ive lost a bit of weight and my feet are thinner. I might look at some that don’t have the toe post As they have some nice ones ... I used to wear heels but comfort presides over glamour now

I love Madrid birkies, my last pair were so comfy but the sole was disintegrating (I wore them constantly for about 4 years) so I bought another pair a couple of weeks ago- I underestimated how long it takes to break them in and have an awful blood blister on my instep- it kills!

I’ve had Birkenstock’s for years , right now have 4 or 5 pairs .
Fit flops are comfier though.

There is a big difference between the narrow and they regular , I have wide feet and can’t wear the narrow , I do have one pair as they were in the sale but they are not a great fit .

I love birkis and have had loads of pairs and wear them every day.
If you have wide feet the wide fit is a necessity. It’s not so much the top of the foot being big (or fat in my case ☺️) because the tops are normally adjustable. It’s the bottom of the foot, the width across the two bumps from the base of the big toe and the bump at the base of the little toe.

Birkis and Papillon ( a birkis variant which sometimes have smoother tops but still made by Birkenstock) have moulded bases with a kind of uplift around the edge. If your foot pushes up against that because it is too wide then it will be uncomfortable.

Birkis are often not comfy when you get them as they mould to your feet over time, but once they have moulded they are excellent.

They are firmer and more supportive than fit flops. Birkis and a pair of crocs flip flops and I am good to go.

Yuk. I have found if I wear them when I am slightly damp getting out of the shower they break in quicker. Not actually in the shower though. My dd misunderstood instructions and truly soaked hers. They moulded to her feet quickly but were slides for a while.

Are Madrid the toe post ones? I try and get the ones with the non leather toe posts. (Gizeh and papillon version of gizeh too)

I have the Madrid ones, got them from Costco. They are the only thing I wear at the mo! I've seen a pair of bright pink ones that I want, but can't get them anywhere at mo.

I absolutely love Birkies, I have 20+ pairs in lots of different colours and patterns. Most of them are Gizeh and a couple of pairs of Mayari. I actually wore a brand new pair today and went for a 5mile walk, they are so comfy.
